Reflection

As we are wrapping up our final week with our direct mailers, my PR pubs class was asked to write a reflection post on our experiences. I knew I wanted my first stakeholder to be students with a parent or both parents that were OU alumni because that was the boat I was in when deciding what university was for me. I could relate. My second stakeholder came out of the same idea, just reversed. I knew my parents wanted me to do whatever I wanted but at the same time would’ve enjoyed seeing me experience the same traditions they participated in college as well. Parents have the most influence on their children in this decision, so I felt like making the parents a stakeholder was a great idea.

My draft has changed since I first began making this direct mailer, several times actually. There is a lot that has influenced me to change my design – inspiration that comes from seeing others’ work, new concepts I would like to portray and things I look back on and just do not know what I was thinking at the time.

I have found that Photoshop and InDesign are similar in many ways. Both can pretty much do the same types of things just in a different manner. Also, I notice that the more I use the software the more comfortable I get and the better my skills get. I think Photoshop and InDesign are both tools that just take time to learn and get used to but both have the power to create a vision.

Below are my two direct mailers:
