This week, I continued to work in the direct milers for OU Recruitment Services. As you read in the last reflection, the public relations class was asked to design two direct mailers for the university’s recruitment services. The two had to to have different stakeholders and appeal to the need of each. To understand them better and gather our ideas, my classmates and I completed a segmenting stakeholder’s matrix. This allowed us to be coherent with all the sides of the design and focus on the outcome we wanted.

I chose to appeal to incoming freshman that are already in the process of applying to the University of Oklahoma or already have the university in mind. These students are between the ages of 17-18, seniors in high school. Because they are in their last year, they have multiple projects in the air. For this reason, I decided to create a direct mailer reminding them about the deadline application in order to be considered for the university’s scholarships.

The second stakeholder I chose was girls between the ages of 13-16. I wanted to create awareness among this stakeholders about STEM career possibilities. During this time, students typically have the choice of choosing their classes. My goal is to place this career options for girls to prepare better during this years. The ultimate goal is to increase the enrollment of girls in this fields at the University of Oklahoma.

For this project, I used Photoshop to create all the design elements. It certainly cost me more time in YouTube tutorials than InDesign did for previous projects. Photoshop was harder to manage. I often forgot I was working on a layer that I was not supposed to, and when I wanted to delete it, I couldn’t. It definitely taught me to be more organized. However, I did like using the amount of design brushes and playing with the different design effects.
