Learning Photoshop

This week we are concluding the direct mailer designs in my public relations publications class. As you might have read in my previous reflections, the assignment task was to design two direct mailers for the University of Oklahoma’s recruitment services using only Photoshop.

Before this assignment, I had become fairly familiar with the tools in InDesign, but now I was to learn the ins and outs of Photoshop. Starting the project was almost similar to indesign, but I quickly found the huge differences: layers. I am an impatient person by nature which made the task of switching layers very complex. However, I discovered that naming them made the job easier. Nonetheless, I must admit, I like working with InDesign better.

In Photoshop, I also got a bit addicted with brushes (texture and figures both alike). I loved the look they gave my project. I always thought graphic designers designed the whole project all by themselves, but brushes must help them as they helped me.

In general, I am learning many of the features for both in InDesign and Photoshop. I like picturing something in my head and then bringing it to live with this tools.
