Reflection
For my PR Publications class we were asked to design a letterhead and a business card for a company of our choice. We have had two weeks to design, redesign and complete. At first I was kind of worried of how I was going to pull this off, simply because it was my first time really using InDesign. I had big ideas but wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to translate those ideas to paper.
I was actually very excited once I started my business card and letterhead. I felt more comfortable with InDesign and I felt that I could really get the design I wanted to come across. It’s so weird looking at the first draft and then my final draft (only two weeks away) and seeing the difference in my design aesthetic. I think I was excited because I didn’t think I would be able to get the design I wanted or be able to complete a decent design. It makes me more excited about this course and what else I am capable of doing.
I don’t think I will actually pitch my design for Sprinkles, simply because they are a big business and they already have a specific design. Although my design is complimentary of theirs, I just don’t think they are looking for a remodel of their card which is not very relevant to their business.
I definitely feel more comfortable using InDesign. I never thought of myself as a creative person, but being able to use these software’s allows me to really explore what I am capable of. I can only imagine what else we will be asked to do and how our skills will improve over the course of this semester. Right now, I am very comfortable and excited about the design I produced. I don’t think I would do anything different because if I ever did think I needed to change something I would do it.
For future students doing this project: Don’t limit yourself! It is very intimidating to work on a project with a software you’ve never used, but don’t allow that to stop the potential of a great design. I think this is the best time to experiment with different ideas because it is a learning process.
