Reflection
Phew. Its done! The second design project in PR Pubs is done. And it was a doozy. We were asked to design two different Direct Mailers for two different Stakeholders easy right? Well here’s the catch it HAD to be in Photoshop. And if you have been up to date on my posts you are aware that photoshop is NOT my strong suit.
For some reason my brain and Photoshop do not get along. But having my professor in class helped a lot because he was there to answer a lot of questions while going through the process. One of the things I kept having to remind myself too is that I am representing OU. For example, I wanted to put our chant “Sooner born, Sooner bred, Sooner dead” but Sooner dead is probably not something that should go on a post card you know? We know thats our chant but maybe a prospective student doesn’t and that could be scary so…
After I finished both rough drafts I was semi pleased. Mostly because photoshop is difficult. I wanted to give up a lot. I learned a lot about photoshop though which, like driving, is the only way you’re gonna learn these applications is just by doing it and learning from your mistakes along the way. I am becoming more confident as each day goes but these tools are complicated. I am still a bigger fan of InDesign but Photoshop is slowing creeping up there.
Overall, I think both post cards are cool. I would be pleased to see them show up in my mailbox but I don’t believe they are “OU ready”. My skills aren’t quite there yet! If I were to start over I would’ve done more research to gain inspiration from other past Direct Mailers. My professor brought some old ones to class but I should’ve spent more time really looking at those.
