Reflection

This week in PR Pub we were asked to design a newsletter for a Fortune 500 company. We then had to gather stories and pictures that were related to our company so we could implement that content into our newsletters. I chose to do Walmart.

At first I dreaded getting back into InDesign since it has been awhile since I have worked with the program but I was surprised to see how much I remembered. The newsletter took a lot of time because I was unsure on what layouts to choose from. I still had my newspaper from the exercise we did with finding Bylines, headlines.. etc. I spent some time studying the different layouts The New York Times used throughout their newspaper. That really helped me get an idea to how I could place my different pictures and texts.

Overall, this project was the most difficult one for me so far because when something doesn’t look right on InDesign it almost shows instantly to me so there were occasions where I had to figure out a different way to place my headlines and bylines in order for them to fit/look presentable. This was frustrating because I would spend several minutes working on a section just to realize it wasn’t going to work. On a lighter note, by the time I started working on page 3 and 4 I was moving along at a faster pace and everything started to fall in place. It is really interesting to now truly understand all the work and thought that goes into different newsletters. This was my first time ever to do a newsletter so I am happy to say I finished my first one alive!
