Reflection

For my first design project, I designed a business card and letterhead for Pi Beta Phi. I had to do background research on the competition, find design inspiration, and determine what things were unique to my organization. I was intimidated by this first project because I had never worked with InDesign before. Though it was nerve-racking at first, I was excited to learn how to effectively use InDesign and different design concepts.

Overall, I was pleased with my finished project. I was able to learn a lot of new things by trial and error and simple experimentation. I feel like I’m finally able to properly use the design concepts I learned earlier in the semester. I definitely feel myself becoming more confident with the tools I’m using in InDesign. I think my reaction was the way it was because I didn’t know what to expect of myself. My finished project was a pleasant surprise.

For future students doing this project, I would recommend going into the assignment with no expectations. The whole process was a learning experience for me and that’s exactly how it’s supposed to be.
