Reflection

So, this week was pretty crazy. After a nice three day weekend at the lake over the Fourth of July, I come back to my D2L to see that I probably should have done assignment 1.3 BEFORE leaving for the lake. We were asked to watch 24 videos, which were a compilation of Photoshop and InDesign tutorials. Then we had a newspaper markup and  typesetting assignment. My initial reactions were somewhere along the lines of this:

I had nothing else to do but to dive right in because I realized all of this was due like NOW.

After doing the tutorial videos, I felt better because that was a massive chunk of the lesson. The tutorials were really fun to do and I felt like I learned a lot.

Next thing to do was to start on the assignments. The newspaper markup assignment was fairly easy. I am already pretty familiar with the design aspects of a newspaper, so I was able to move through it at a decent pace. The typesetting assignment was the assignment that I was pretty freaked out to start on; however, once I got into it, it seemed to go pretty well. The main problem I ran into was that on my trail version on InDesign, I don’t have Helvetica font. I had to search through the fonts and try to find one similar. After I found a decent font, I was able to place my text boxes. And, before I knew it, I was done with the typesetting assignment.

In conclusion, I should have listened to my professor and started on this assignment WAY before I did. I was freaked out over the amount of work I had to do, but in the end it was all really enjoyable work. I was hesitant about working in InDesign for the first time but I really like the program and I am excited to utilize it for the rest of the semester.
