Reflection – Business Card and Letterhead Project
In my PR Pubs class this past week, we finished our business card and letterhead project. We were told to finalize our design project. This project was meant to use research as well as personal taste to design a business card and letterhead for the company of our choice.
I feel as if I responded very well to what I was asked to do for the project. My client wants to be seen as businesslike and professional as well as innovative. I think I did a great job at delivering a design that is very professional, but does have some fun elements to the design. I wanted the business card and letterhead to have a simplistic, clean feel to it.
I really like my business card and letterhead design, because it is clean. It is similar to the clients business card that we will competing with their work. We want to show them that we want to be a seamless connection with them. I think I did really well. I used constructive criticism from both my classmates and professor Croom to make a better design.
I think my reaction was like that, because I personally don’t want my business cards or letterhead to be flashy or have too much going on. I prefer the simplistic, clean, fresh look and that in my opinion looks better. I do not believe that my opinion is always right or that it is always the best choice for the job, but in this assignment with this client I believe that our initial relationship with a client needs to be professional and businesslike. The stigma of college students is that they do not have enough experience to do great work for a brand. By showing them that we are professional, I believe that Lindsey + Asp will only grow and get more business.
As far as the supplemental questions….
I do have long-term goals for these designs. Lindsey + Asp just got a new logo, so I incorporated the new logo with these two projects. I want to at least talk to them about it, but it is their decision if they want to use my designs.
I feel like I am becoming more confident in my InDesign and Photoshop tools. I am not so lost when I get on it anymore. Whenever I begin a project I feel as if I have the ability to create stuff on my own. It is still not to the quality that I want it to be, but I do feel more confident.
If I were to start over, I would have spoken to the leadership of Lindsey + Asp to see if they had any ideas about the design of the business card or letterhead. I definitely would have included their opinion in my design decisions.
My recommendations for future students would be to work hard and to find a style that interests you. Everyone has different tastes, so way in each persons opinion when they give you constructive criticism.
Lastly, this was a great assignment. I had so much fun and I really enjoyed every moment of designing these two projects.
