Reflection ch 11
This week, we were asked to design a newsletter for a fortune 500 company. I chose Macy’s because I love Macy’s, shopping, and the Macy’s on Michigan Ave. holds a special place in my heart. That being said, I made a mock newsletter for Macy’s using InDesign. I was eager to begin the assignment because the more I work with InDesign, I become more comfortable and willing to try new things. I thought that placing text boxes and photos in a “easy on the eyes” layout would not be too bad. It was not too difficult; it was just frustrating trying to arrange different aspects of the newsletter. My first draft of my newsletter could have been better and more engaging, but for my first draft, I really wanted to familiarize myself with arranging the text and photos first. On my final draft, I will be able to add the pretty factor to it. I feel like I have great design ideas and just do not know how to implement them as effectively as I would like. I think that creating a mock “dummy” layout is very beneficial because it gives me a great feel for InDesign’s abilities when it comes to creating a newsletter. Also, once the basic draft is complete, it provides the opportunity for growth and improvement on any design project, in this case a newsletter.
