Reflection (direct mailer)

This past week has been extremely challenging.  Creating two completely unique direct mailers that had some kind of relation to each other was difficult, to say the least.  I decided to go with a student-athlete as my first stakeholder.  I wanted to do something completely different then the rest of the class would do, and it is special to me because I am a student-athlete here at the university.

For my second stakeholder, I decided to go with a potential alumni/ regular parent of a potential student-athlete.  I think convincing the parent that the school is a good fit for their children, is just as important as convincing the child.

In terms of designing my direct mailers, I took two completely different routes.  For my first mailer to the student-athlete, I combined a lot of pictures of different individuals, and tried to keep the color palette the same throughout the entire mailer.  For the parent one, I wanted to try to add some texture to the mailer, I wanted it to stand out and give a direct point.  On the front I decided to go with a bold, metal-looking background with the simple words of “There’s Only One, Oklahoma.”  Then on the back I wanted parents to get a feel of what their child could be experiencing.  I decided to use the blur tool to direct their eyes at exactly what I wanted them looking at.  I also believe adding the heading of “sooner born, sooner bred” will be memorable to the alumni, but also let the new potential parents know that there is a lot of history and family in this University.
