Reflection – Direct Mailer Drafts
After defining our stakeholders for assignment #2, we were then to start the design process. When starting to design my second draft for the second stakeholder, it was actually much easier than the first one. Not just because I was refreshed with Photoshop, but also because I had grown to understand the primary stakeholder so well, that the secondary stakeholder was just almost a direct spinoff of that. I had defined the student and what their needs were, so when thinking about their parent it was easier to understand.
My second design was a little more simple and straight to the point. As a student, especially a National Merit Scholar, you are probably receiving a lot of mail from schools. What I would want to look at would be something that stands out and isn’t just a cookie cutter flyer. For the direct mailer aimed towards the parents, I wanted to keep it more straightforward and informational so they knew exactly what the purpose was. Also, I included the picture of President Boren with students because I know at least my mom would be able to visualize her child there better with that type of photo than with a picture of a building.
When using Photoshop there were definitely more differences between it and InDesign that stood out to me more than similarities. I think the whole layers thing is a little complicated but it ensures that you’re keeping everything safe and not changing to much about each individual item or image. InDesign is a little more simple to use, but I do like that Photoshop can execute in a more detailed manner. So far, I am enjoying using both!
