Reflection | Final Newsletter
As I sprint into the final leg of my publications course, I’ve stitched together a complete Google-centered newsletter. All in all, I’m happy with some of the dramatic flair I’ve managed to weave throughout. Mostly, it’s refreshing to envision potential changes to the overall feel and theme of the design — then will it into existence. Execution is seldom smooth — and this piece retained its share of snags — but I’m relieved to put it to bed.
A couple more takeaways: text is a beast to manage. Typesetting remains a hair-pulling chore. Between the gaggles of orphan words, cut-off modifiers and always-too-long paragraphs — I’ve dealt with my fair share of typographic hurdles. Lastly, my finishing touches reinforced the simple power of tactful color and sharp contrast. Incorporating large-bleed images with accent colors tuned to Google’s logo has proved to be a win so far, but I’m interested to hear additional feedback. Revisions took several times longer than anticipated, but I’m glad I didn’t leave the work half-baked.
