Reflection- Final Stage of Direct Mailer
I can honestly say I never thought this day would come (just kidding, of course.) When I first started my direct mailer my reaction was something along the lines of, “Oh no, what in the world is a direct mailer!” But as I started research different forms of direct mailers I realized that it is something I have seen before and even gotten in the mail! In my previous post I talked about the process I used when I first started my direct mailer. I researched my client, then looked at their previous direct mailers and other college’s direct mailers. After that, I began to think about who my target audience was and look into what would be interesting for them.
Long story short and I do mean long story, because the entire process took me half of the week to complete just the research necessary to start the mailer, anyway I was able to make my first set of direct mailers with only a little screaming and hair pulling on my part. As I went into this week I was overall way more confident! Not only had I gotten all of my frustration with Photoshop out the week before, but I actually felt more confident using the tools, so when my layers bar disappeared for the 15th time I was able to easily pull it back up! My roommates are witnesses for how excited I was for this accomplishment.
Overall, I really enjoyed using Photoshop and I could see the benefits and downsides to only using this one program. In Photoshop it is easier to manipulate photos, which is a very crucial aspect for a direct mailer. One thing I do prefer to use programs like InDesign, is for things with more textual content. Photoshop is great for images and playing around with shapes, but it is hard to move and create text on there. I am happy with my finished products. For anyone who is using an Adobe program to make something, just remember that it is okay to start over or change your design, noting is set in stone. In my case this process of continual changes gave me a final product that I am proud of. I would love to hear from you about what you liked and what you thought I could do better!
