Reflection Lesson 10
This week was not about precision, it was about speed! It was a race to the finish line in JMC 3433 while we completed our social media design sprint. We were asked to create four social media graphics; a Facebook cover, a twitter cover, an instagram post, and a Facebook post. The catch was, instead of using the normal tools like Photoshop and InDesign, we were asked to use an online application called Canva. First of all, I would like to say YES and THANK YOU CROOM! I officially love Canva. It is simple to understand, to the point, and a breeze to work with. I was so happy once I started playing around on Canva and saw just how easy it was. It was definitely a “gimme week” for those who are technologically challenged like myself. Since I was excited going into this project, I feel like my designs reflected my excitement. I used bright, inviting colors and messages. I think I reacted so well to this week because I was able to create my social media designs with an organization I feel passionately about. I designed for Hayden’s Hope, a nonprofit organization financially assisting families of children awaiting a life-saving organ transplant. I really hope this organization enjoys and finds some use for my social media designs!
Some affordances of an app like canva are cost efficiency and accessibility. It is free to sign up and use and most graphics are free. It is a viral application which allows people to use it anywhere they have access to internet. The only downfall is that some people may want to manipulate an image more, which is not available on Canva like it is on Photoshop. My design thought process changed a bit for this week. I thought on a smaller scale. I also thought about the simple posts that I would like to see while scrolling through Facebook or instagram.
