Reflection on Letterhead
This week in my Publications course I continued to revise my business card draft using feedback, while also designing a new letterhead piece. By reviewing each other’s work, we devised new strategies to polish each design moving forward. I definitely benefitted from the diversity of feedback during my revisions.
In my case, I’ve often found initial drafts more frustrating to produce than final products. I find new stylistic strategies and tweaks from helpful feedback to advance my work, rather than bog down the creative process. Of course, giving high quality feedback can prove slippery — even intangible at times. Even so, I hope my classmates found my suggestions and pointers helpful overall.
Blank slates create uneasiness: it’s a possibility for 100 percent failure. Starting fresh can be awkward, but necessary. This week one of my biggest revisions involved creating a new polygon background from scratch utilizing the Juggle Whatever color scheme I created. Carefully calibrated tweaks give me a foothold to gain cognitive traction. Good revisers stare down a piece from a new angle; the best revisers turn and mull a piece over corner-by-corner until something clicks. Now that’s great work.
