Direct-Mailer-Rush-300x214.jpg

Reflection Post

The past two weeks, my PR Publications class has worked on creating direct mailers for The University of Oklahoma’s recruitment services department. When I drafted my first direct mailer for women’s recruitment I knew exactly who I wanted as a stakeholder. By my second draft for incoming young men, defining my stakeholder came to me even more quickly because I already had my ideas from the first direct mailer to play off of.

When I was comparing my designs from beginning to end, I could see I made many changes. I believe leaving my designs once class finished and coming back to them a day later influenced the designs because it gave me time to think of better ideas and become more creative. The amount of time we were given to work on the rough drafts allowed me to think about what would truly appeal to the target audience I am trying to reach.

Comparing Photoshop and InDesign, it seemed to me that InDesign had more to play around with and I seem to understand how to work it much better than Photoshop. I don’t think I am familiar enough with either to truly compare their similarities and differences but I can tell you without a doubt that this assignment was more challenging due to the difficulty of me trying to understand and get along with Photoshop.

Overall, I feel okay about my direct mailers. I know I could make them better with time but I guess that is what a rough draft is for.
