This week for my Public Relations Publications class we are picking an organization, defining their mission, competitors and core values and then designing a business card for them. For my organization I decided to go with the Animal Protection and Rescue League or APRL. This organization is very dear to my heart because I am an avid animal lover. I will always be the person to stop by car to help ducks cross the road, and volunteer regularly at local animal shelters to give back.
The APRL is an organization that stands with vegetarianism and helps all animals in need. They believe that educating and direct action will help to end animal cruelty and abuse. They have launched campaigns to oppose fur, rodeos, foie gras, animal circuses, elephant rides, puppy mills, and other cruel practices. The APRL is a grass roots project that also gives generous donations to shelters and campaigns to help animals nationally and internationally.
The APRL is not an organization who stands down from opposition. Big time businesses involved in Puppy Mills, and meat distribution are constantly fighting back against the APRL. One of the biggest campaigns they have launched recently is FUR. This campaign is launched specially at animals who are harbored and trapped for their entire lives in fashion facilities who then slaughter and use the animals skin for distribution. The conditions and lives of these animals are pitiful and that is why APRL steps in and takes a stand. The competitors of the APRL would be organizations such as the American society for the prevention of animal cruelty. The ASPCA is an American based society that is very well known for the protection of animals, but usually do not get involved in big business situations.
The core values of the APRL are to love animals as we love one another. They want to protect animals and promote compassion. This is a nonprofit organization that relies solely on volunteers and donations to stay active. This organization not only stands for itself but for all shelters and volunteers who take a stand to make animal lives better.
