Research-Competitor Analysis

In my PR Publications course this summer, we are going to be designing a business card and letter head for an organization of our choice. In my previous post titled research, I discussed the organization I will be focusing on, Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. In this post specifically,  I will address the two leading pediatric hospitals in Texas.

Differing from Scottish Rite, Children’s Medical Center is not a specialty hospital. However, they are distinctive in their own ways. Children’s Medical Center is the only Academic Health Care System in North Texas. Children’s strives to provide a continuum of care, from primary care to the hospital and back home. They want to make it known that they  are not only there for your child in emergency, but also through chronic illness. Children’s mission is to better the lives of children, to which they have a long-standing commitment.

Scottish Rite is a world leader in the treatment of pediatric orthopaedic conditions, specific neurological disorders, and learning disorders such as dyslexia. TSRHC prides themselves on their six areas of exceptional expertise: Spine, Hand, Clubfoot, Hip, Limb Lengthening and Sports Medicine.

After furthering my research, it has become abundantly clear that Scottish Rite has an immense passion for their patients. The doctors are world renowned for the extraordinary patient care they provide.  The facility itself is just as incredible as the doctors. The bright colors and PopCorn scent that surround the hospital are simply magical; making the children feel that they are at the happiest place on earth, not about to go see a doctor. It allows the them to temporarily forget about their condition and just have fun.

In order to bring knowledge about  TSRHC to the community,  over 250 special events are held each year to help raise money to benefit the hospital and its patients.  Also, each year, the hospital accumulates over 800 volunteers, ranging from age 16-89. (No, 89 is not the cutoff, but that is the oldest volunteer I’ve ever met!)

These two hospitals are not necessarily competitors per say, but it simply depends on the specific need of the child.  It is important for people to be aware that Scottish Rite and Children’s Medical Center are not one in the same. They are on opposite sides of the specialty spectrum. However, I will allow people to group them together in ONE category; and that is their deep love, care and strive for the betterment of children.
