Research Competitor Analysis
Because the Oklahoma Blood Institute is the only organization that supplies blood to all medical facilities in the state of Oklahoma, it does not have any direct competitors. For my competitor analysis I instead decided to examine blood institutes within other states and also other nonprofit organizations that are involved in medical supplies and research.
When examining the images of OBI and comparing them to those of other state blood institutes, I discovered that the Texas Blood Institute uses the same graphics and logos for all of it’s marketing. Although OBI is an Oklahoma organization, there is definitely some sort of link between the two. In my pinterest board I included some of the graphics that are used by both companies to show the definite similarities and connection between the two.
I started to examine other companies marketing strategies for organizations that do cancer research or other medical things. I liked some of their marketing logos and graphics but I concluded that OBI’s is very simple, yet still recognizable to the general public. Because other organizations outside of the state use the same general logo, people who are not from the state of Oklahoma but are visiting might see a sign and recognize the images from their own state.
Like I previously stated I think that in some ways it is beneficial that the state blood institutes use the same marketing and advertising materials, but I do think that it would benefit OBI to come up with some new material of their own. The slogan “Feel Good, Give Blood.” is well known and I think it suits the company very well but I did not like some of the graphics with images I saw contacting this. It was everyday people with bandages like they had just given blood. I thought it was a good idea but that it could been executed in a more exciting and detailed way. Simplicity is very good sometimes but having too much white space can be very boring. I think if OBI could get images of people who have been helped by the blood that is donated, it would appeal and draw interest from viewers.
