Research Part 2
How To Set World Literature Today Apart
On my previous blog, I explained to you the business card I was assigned to design on InDesign for my PR Publications class. I talked briefly about the two major industry competitors: The New Yorker and The Ploughshares.
However, in this blog I will shift away from the competition and explain to you why World Literature Today (WLT), an international literature, suffers from it’s competitors and how that should influence on it’s image difference.
First, WLT is one of the few literature magazines that publishes international literature. If you glance at its issue reviews, you will notice that the first review might be from an Oklahoma student, the second could be from a professor in England and so on. It’s competitors also have much broader topics like business, political analysis sections and daily news sections. WLT on the other hand, seeks to touch on this subjects strictly though literature. For example, it might suggest that you read a first account autobiography of a Syrian refugee rather than laying the pure facts on the table. I think this is a great tool, that serves to deepen the perspective for the readers.
Because WLT has such a great competitive advantage of being one of the few international magazines, it must built it’s image around this angel. This is the one thing that really sets WLT apart from the national publications mentioned above.
