Risk & Reward

I chose chapter 7 to read this week from our text for PR Pubs. I chose this because I WHOLEHEARTEDLY agree with the very first sentence:

Showing emotion in design, as in life, is risky.

But I do know that sometimes it proves to be so worth it! The reward is worth the risk…sometimes. I say this because sometimes (especially in design), I may not stick my first idea out there because I think it may be too risky. In reality, it could be solid gold.

The risk is obviously that not everyone will love the style of the design that is out on a limb.

This chapter also uses the idea of creating a persona for your brand–which I also agree with. However, I do still feel like there should be caution when throwing personalities out there hoping everyone will love them. Which the author mentions when he says that emotional design should never interfere with the usability, functionality or reliability of the design.

Overall, I found very little in this book that I did not agree with. I think the author did a great job of communicating the idea of emotion while still keeping in mind the paramounts of design.
