Second Direct Mailer Reflection

After completing the first direct mailer draft, the second was much easier! I was able to utilize the Photoshop tools much better. I still need to fine-tune both drafts, but I like how they are coming along. I like the simpler designs because oftentimes I feel like they catch the eye more. I tried to do muted colors for the backgrounds so that the focus was on the pictures and words. I wanted to change the designs so that I featured more faces. After reading Designing for Emotion and listening in my Multimedia Journalism class, I have realized the importance of putting faces in pieces to capture the viewer’s emotions.

Photoshop and InDesign are pretty similar in layout but they can do many different things! I find InDesign much easier to use because I don’t have to choose a layer every time. I like the effects that can be done with Photoshop because they can give the piece an entirely different feel. I kind of miss using InDesign because Photoshop is more user-unfriendly, at least to me! Using both programs has definitely been useful though. I feel like I could successfully create a piece on either program without help!
