Social Media Design Sprint
This week in my PR Publications class, I was asked to create various social media posts for an organization of my choice. I chose to stick with the organization I used for a previous assignment, The Earth Cafe and Deli.
I wanted to use nature as a theme, because I’m positive that customers of The Earth would respond well to that. Also, spring is upon us and I wanted to use that to my advantage. I didn’t want a lot of text on my designs. I wanted to use emotion, like the book says. I figured that the two cover photos would speak for themselves and customers can view more detailed information in the “about us” sections of Facebook and Twitter. For the Facebook post, I decided to use a textured grass background. I figured that it could remind the customers of the feeling of grass between their toes. I like that feeling. I wanted the name of the company to be very light, allowing the viewer to focus more on the emotion. For the Instagram post, I added a small call to action–“shop fresh”. I figured it was something simple and it went well with the fresh air feeling of the background.
I really enjoyed this assignment and I will definitely keep Canva in mind in the future. It is super easy to use and has a lot of great features. The only limitation I found on Canva was its organization of free versus paid content. I wish that when I searched something, all the free results were first. I found myself accidentally selecting paid items and having to go back and change them when prompted for payment at the end. Overall, these came out much better than I expected. I’m definitely going to try to get The Earth to use some of these.
