Stakeholder
This week in my PR Publications course, more creating begins!! I will be creating two direct mailers for OU Recruitment Services.. but first, stakeholders.
So where do I even begin? There are more than a trillion stakeholder’s at the University of Oklahoma (that might even be an underestimate) however, I think I’ve narrowed down my selection to a top 2.
Stakeholder #1:
- high school student, 17-19 years old, automatic admission to OU, lives out of state I chose this stakeholder because just a few years ago, it was me. Starting my senior year in high school in good old Trophy Club, TX (lol Trophy Club), I knew I already was in at OU but I felt like there was no real push to go. At the time I applied for OU, if you had a certain GPA and were top 25% of your class you had automatic admission, however, you definitely didn’t receive anything special for being out of state. A part of OU recruitment services is to recruit those from other states, not just Oklahoma. I think OU Recruitment Services has a great opportunity to target those high school students who have already been admitted but live out of state, because it’s so easy for students to say “well I’m out of state, why not just stay in state and save some money?” It is our job to give them a reason to come here. Basically we need to say, “Yeah you could settle for Texas Tech or even go with the easier out of state option, Oklahoma State (my apologies to any OSU fans), but you NEED to come to OU because of this and this and this.”
Stakeholder #2:
2. OU alumni, child in high school, income above $50,000, living out of state
What’s more special than continuing a family tradition? A major, major, MAJOR influencer of student’s who attend Universities is their parents. There’s really no big argument there. In most situations (not all, I am aware many students pay their own way through college) parents help their children with the cost of higher education. Again, I am focusing my direct mailers on out of state specifically. I think this will be a good angle for me to use considering my parents are from out of state, and although neither of my parents attended OU, my dad’s entire family is in Oklahoma and there’s just something special about being in this state for my family. I need to really hit the hearts of these alumni and maybe if the message gets across to them they will encourage their child to consider OU. I think this would be a really fun stakeholder to use.
