Summary of Learning
For my final blog post of the semester, I have decided to design a graphic that would describe the purpose of Public Relations Publications. This whole semester has been such a learning process with print and online graphics. With the use of Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop and Canva, I have had the experience to learn how to create and design a business card, letterhead, direct mailer, newsletter, professional social media posts, and graphics. When designing these different medium and graphics, I have learned a lot about different design concepts such as typography, color, metaphors/symbols, minimalism/use of space, form/function/message, balance, rhythm, proportion, dominance, and unity. All of these concepts were extremely crucial during each design process. Using the right amount of contrast, alignment, the right kind of font and color can be the ‘make or break’ of attracting your target audience. When creating a Newsletter, we also learned about the specific elements within a newsletter and where to place them (masthead, headlines, deck, subhead, bylines, body text, photo cutline, pull quote, dividers, and jump line). For this final blog post, the purpose of the graphic I created was to demonstrate all of these concepts into one simple design.
Overall, this class has taught me a lot about how to design. Over the past few months, I have gained confidence and experience when working with InDesign and Photoshop. There were times where I was very impatient and stressed, but the more and more I worked with them, the more I learned how to use them. I am very happy with how much I have grown because of this class and look forward to using this experience in my future career with Public Relations.
