The Power of Personality
Chapter 3 in Designing for Emotion covers the use of a design personality to create an emotional platform.
In this chapter, much like the other, I agree with mot of the ideas. I especially love the idea of creating a persona for your website. The person viewing the page should feel like they are connecting with a person, not a hug company or robot. I took a social media marketing class and we created personas for a brand that mimicked celebrities–something people know about and already like. This was mentioned in the reading for this chapter, as well.
One thing that was addressed in Chapter 3 that I did not necessarily agree with 100% was Carbonnade’s use of humor. Keeping things informal is one thing, but using so much humor that is distracts from the message in the design doesn’t make sense to me. People may remember the joke, but will they remember the message, or even the brand?
Personality is a powerful tool in design. This chapter did a great way of introducing that to design beginners.
