Typesetting Assignment
As I mentioned in an earlier post, I have been learning about design and becoming familiar with design programs such as InDesign and Photoshop over the past week.
One of my assignments was to lay text within a template provided by my professor. I was given a copy of what the newsletter was meant to look like and then instructions about which fonts to use and how big or small to make them. I incorporated my knowledge of the terms discussed in the last assignment (such as bylines, cutlines, and page jumps) as these were the texts that were being placed within the document.
I will admit that I struggled a bit with this assignment at first. Whenever my professor was going over InDesign in class, I had a little bit of a hard time keeping up. However, after watching some of the tutorials offered on Lynda.com and playing around with InDesign (aka making mistakes and learning from them) I began to feel more comfortable.
Here is a link to my finished newsletter.
I am still learning about InDesign and how it works, but I think I am at least becoming more comfortable with it. I intend to watch the tutorials again and spend some more time just playing around with the program to build my skills.
