Typography
As Professor Croom mentioned, typography is critical in design. To learn the importance of typography, our public relations publications class put our skills to the test in a series of typography games.
Shoot the Serif
During the first few rounds of this game, I assumed I would be a Shoot the Serif pro. As time ran quicker, and more fonts appeared, my pride quietly laid to rest. At the beginning of each round I quickly noticed the serif fonts, but simply just ran out of time. I loved this game because there were a variety of serif fonts that aren’t as obvious as your typical Times New Roman.
Type War
I personally enjoyed playing TypeWar. This game quickly became challenging, and I love a challenge. I was able to learn more font names and become comfortable with their appearance.
Kern Type
Who knew I’d be pretty good at this game? Because I sure didn’t! I honestly thought kerning wasn’t a strong suit of mind, but after a few rounds of Kern Type I think I grabbed an eye for spacing. This was my favorite game. I enjoyed seeing the design come to life once the spacing was corrected.
