Typography

This assignment focused on recognizing and differentiating diverse fonts through fun interactive games online. I really enjoyed the games because it cool way for me to get to know the most common and unique fonts used.

The first game I played was Shoot the Serif where I had to quickly find the Serif fonts out of the sans serif fonts. After I played the game a couple of times I noticed how much quicker I became at identifying the serif font.

Type Connection was the second game I played. I had to pick a font as my main character and then find another font to form the a successful match. I liked this game because each of the characters are a font that forms a love connection. I found that the ITC Century paired with the Futura worked very well together due to their contrasting forms. Overall, this game was great to see which fonts are compatible and cohesive.

The final game I played was Type War where I basically had to decide which font was shown as the typeface. This was a really good way for me to quickly identify and differentiate between fonts.

Overall, these games made me realize that there are so many fonts out there to choose from. I really liked learning about the diverse and unique fonts that I hadn’t heard of before. I also learned that there can be a lot that goes into choosing the right combinations and identifying the right lettering.
