Typography Games

Shot the Serif

When I was choosing between the five typography games, I decided to play the shot the serif game first. As I began playing on the easiest level, I realized it was easy to decipher which letters would be described as serif and which would be described as sans-serif. However, the further I advanced in the game and attempted the harder levels I realized the more letters that there were to decipher between made it more difficult and overwhelming in the time allotted. Ialso realized that the smaller the letters became the more difficult it was to see if they would be classified as sans-serif or serif. In the end, I was unable to complete the final level when playing as a senior.

Poster Letters

When I decided to attempt the poster letters game, I assumed I’d be much better than I actually was. I thought I would be able to recognize the letters very easily but I was very wrong. When I first realized how difficult it was, I thought to myself it would’ve been a lot easier if the game had been multiple choice not fill in the blank. Though some of them were very recognizable, which were mostly disney movies and romantic comedies, there were some that I did not think I had ever seen before. When I had attempted all the ones I thought I knew, I looked that the letters that I did not know and realized some of these movies I had never seen before. If I had seen those movies I probably would’ve been able to guess the title based on one letter. I think this game was not only fun but showed that a recognizable and different font can give a movie poster originality.

Kern Type

When I first began to attempt playing kern type I realized perception and spacial reasoning would be key to having success in this game. As I got further into playing the game, I realized the more letters that were in a word the better my percentage would be. Once I had attempted a couple rounds, I realized I was a lot better at this game than I thought I would be. This game showed be that  proper space between letters is important in order to achieve pleasant and readable text.
