The Type Connection: I bet that not many people can say that they have played a game where they matched up fonts {ON A DATE!!}. This game asked me to choose a font after giving me a background story for the type of personality each font would have. I then chose what my font was looking for in a relationship. They were paired up on a date and enjoyed a very exciting wine tasting where they enjoyed glasses of Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. The game stated that Univers and Linotype Centennial “balance discipline and refinement.” What more could a couple ask for.

Poster Letters: In this game, I was asked to identify movies based off of one letter from their movie poster that was present in this arrangement. It might seem like it would be easy but other than the “S” for the movie Shrek, I did not have much luck on my own. With the help of a friend who happens to be quite the movie lover, I was able to identify letters from other movies including: Aliens, Sweeney Todd, Clockwork Orange, Wall-E, and Gone with the Wind. After clicking on all of the movies to see the posters, I felt very silly for not recognizing some of them. Many of these movies and their fonts are very well-known and easily recognizable from their posters.

Kerntype: Successfully spacing out letters the way that typographers do is not as easy as it may seem. Many of my attempts only reached the high 80’s and low 90th percentile. What seems even to my untrained eye is apparently not so to the well-practiced and knowledgable eye of a kerning typographer. Practice makes perfect though and hopefully I can get better the more I work on this game.
