Week 11 Reflection
After the quick turnaround of our Canva design project last week, we’ve moved on to a project that’s slated to span at least a couple weeks: newsletter design. First, we were asked to pick a Fortune 500 to design a newsletter for. I’m pretty terrible at making selections, especially when there are literally 500 options. After a significant amount of deliberation, I decided to go with Mondelez International, a company whose brand family includes the likes of Oreo, Nabisco, and Trident — all billion dollar brands.
After I finally made my selection, I began gathering material to put in the newsletter. While I haven’t inserted any of it yet, I do have my stories picked out. My favorite one is about how Oreo Mini traveled around the country and surprised every household in 50 of America’s smallest towns with special “mini deliveries.” I also began designing a dummy layout for my newsletter. Knowing myself, the final product probably won’t resemble this much, but it’s a start.
I feel like I’ve said this before, but I don’t think I had a very interesting reaction to the work I did for this class this week. At this point of the semester, I’m kind of in go mode. I take care of what needs to taken care of and I don’t have many emotional responses to that. I did feel a little overwhelmed with this project at first, but I think I’ll have plenty of time to make it work. I don’t have time to be worried and I don’t really have any reason to be worried either.
Screenshots of my layout so far are included below. As I mentioned before, I’m sure this will change, but I definitely see the benefits of making a dummy layout. For one, it helps you see what kind of space you’re working with, which will help dictate how long stories should be, how large or small images should be, etc. Also, it just makes the project seem more handleable (if that’s a word) as a whole.
