Who am I?

Hello, my name is James Chansombat. I am a 21 year old  Laotian American and a senior Public Relations major at the University of Oklahoma with a minor in Human Relations. I am a brother of Lambda Phi Epsilon Fraternity and currently work as a server at a sushi restaurant.

Growing up, imagination and creativity wasn’t only encouraged, it was a necessity. I have four brothers and four sisters and my parents did not have extra funds to buy actual toys for us. My parents loved watching WWE, and as kids we liked to reenact that, with sticks and pillows. I remember my brothers and I would pretend that sticks were wrestlers and make them fight. I loved drawing and painting. I also started watching a lot of Lord of The Rings because my 6th grade teacher required us too. I became obsessed, call me a nerd if you want. I made staffs, wands and armor out of paper pretending to be one of the characters. Thinking about it now I was such a nerd.  I also remember my sophomore year of college I had to share one room with three roommates so I made a loft bed completely from scratch. I am glad it didn’t break and kill me.

What I’m trying to get at here is that my imagination and “creativity” made growing up fun, even with the simplest of things. I loved creating. That love then transitioned from physical to online. I began learning how to use photoshop when I took an intro to ad class where we had to make a campaign booklet. It was probably the best thing I got from that class. I began using that to create flyers, album covers and just random things that I could create.

Design has always been an important part of my life. It’s so great about being able to create something and calling it your own, you know?
