Will you shoot the serif or play matchmaker?

I will admit it, I didn’t assume that typography games would be my new favorite thing, but boy was I wrong. I used three games to help me understand fonts and learn how which one would be most pleasing to the reader and create perfect spacing.

Shoot the Serif, was undoubtablly my favorite one. The purpose of the game was to differentiate between Serif and San Serif fonts and you are required to only shot the Serif fonts. The higher the level the more fonts you would see at once with less time allowed on the clock.

In Kern Type I learned how to properly space between the letters in a word. I loved this game because it beat me almost every time, and i really feel like I learned a lot. It was almost hilarious to see how many times I saw how far off I was from the correct result. The screen shots below are to show how the game would correct you, the new spacing is shown in blue.

Type Connection works by picking out a letter and choosing what characteristics the letter would be like as a person. The game is essentially a Match.com for letters, better the letters than me. Opposites can attract, or letters can be interested in other letters with identical qualities, it’s really whatever you choose. This game allows you to see many different aspects of letters like curves and proportion. Now I know what it’s like to be a matchmaker!
